Used to obtain pre-approval prior to service with a nonprofit organization not listed on the Montgomery County Volunteer Center (MCVC) website
To request pre-approval for service, please complete https://bit.ly/SSLPreApproval -- for in-person service, submit this form to your school’s SSL coordinator; for virtual/remote service, submit this form to SSL@mcpsmd.org

Used to verify and document SSL hours after service is completed
Student and supervisor must complete the form
SSL Activity Verification Forms (https://bit.ly/SSLReflection) for service completed should be turned into your school’s SSL coordinator.
(All SSL forms for service completed during the summer of 2022 should be submitted to your school’s SSL coordinator by the recommended due date of Friday, September 23, 2022.)

SSL AWARDS
- Any high school senior who has submitted documentation to show the completion of 240 SSL hours or more by March 30, 2023, will earn the Certificate of Meritorious Service along with a purple tassel for graduation.
- Any middle school student who has submitted documentation to show the completion of the 75-hour SSL graduation requirement (for the first time in middle school) by March 30, 2023, will receive the Superintendent’s SSL Award.

MSI is looking for "Youth Game Leaders" for 1st grade games held at Hoover every Saturday in September and October. At least one year of soccer experience is required. The Youth Game Leader trainings are August 28 or September 5. Please go to the MSI website (www.msisoccer.org), click the "Play With MSI' tab, and then "Youth Game Leaders Program" for more info and to register for one of the trainings.

The SHC Youth Council is for high school students passionate about supporting refugees and newcomers to build their leadership and community services skills.
SHC Youth Council members will organize their peers to contribute to SHC’s ongoing tutoring programs as well as special events, such as Welcoming Week, World Refugee Day, and an annual Back to School Drive. Youth Council members will also have the opportunity to learn more about initiatives for newcomers in our area and share their ideas and suggestions.
SHC has weekly opportunities for volunteers to participate in (virtual) Homework Helpers tutoring, as well as about one special event per month. Planned events include a Friendsgiving celebration in November, a field trip to the National Mall in the spring, and an event marking World Refugee Day in June.

Great and Small Therapeutic Riding is located in Boyds, MD. Great and Small provides adaptive riding, equine assisted learning, and equine assisted occupational therapy (also known as hippotherapy) to a wide variety of ages and a wide variety of physical and mental disabilities. We are looking for volunteers for our Winter session, as well as future sessions. No horse experience is required, we have our volunteers go through an orientation process before they get into program. Here is the Winter Volunteer Flyer.pdf. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Allie Cassarino, Weekday Volunteer Coordinator at ACassarino@greatandsmallride.org.

Would you like to earn SSL hours and have fun while doing so? Sports Plus is continuing both our virtual and in person programs for Winter 2023 and beyond. Here is a list of programs available. Please respond quickly, as these slots fill up quickly. We are looking for energetic, motivated volunteers that want to contribute. You will have an active role in these programs.
Beginning March 4th, Sports Plus will be offering swim instruction at 2 locations: Bender JCC in Rockville, Md. and the Quince Orchard Swim and Tennis Club in Gaithersburg, Md. Both programs run on the same dates. So, if you want to help out at both programs, you can earn a lot of SSL hours quickly. Here are the dates for the Late Winter Swim Programs:
Late Winter 2023 Swim Instruction Program - JCC Rockville location - Saturdays - 3:15-6:15pm, 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25 This program is for competitive swimmers only.
Late Winter 2023 Swim Instruction Program - Quince Orchard Swim and Tennis Club, Gaithersburg, Md. Saturdays - 12noon-2:45pm, 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25 This program is for competitive swimmers only.
February Bingo Social - Friday, 2/24 - 6-8:30pm - JCC Rockville
Please let Natalie Liniak - info@playsportsplus.org) - know as soon as possible if you are interested, including how often you would like to volunteer. Also let us know if you want to volunteer with a friend, so we can schedule you together. Please only sign up for days you know you can commit to. You do not have to volunteer each week, but we do ask that you help for the full time frame listed. Volunteers must be 14 years or older unless you have a direct connection to special needs.

- The Keeping It Safe Student Video Contest is now open! The Keeping it Safe (KIS) Coalition is a multi-agency, public-private coalition established in 1992 with the goals of deterring underage alcohol use and reducing youth access to alcohol. KIS encourages student teams (two or more students) from Montgomery County public and private high schools and middle schools to create a 30-second public service message from selected topics about the risks and dangers of under 21 alcohol use. The contest is open to teams of two or more students enrolled in Montgomery County public or private schools or in faith-based or service-based organizations. Click here for the flyer. Students may earn 5 SSL hours for quality video submissions. Interested students may view the contest rules and additional information at this link.

- April 1st - planting 1,000 native trees and shrubs on seven acres of state park land in the Patuxent River Watershed. The location for the event is the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary in Prince George's County.
- April 15th - planting over 1,000 native trees and shrubs on approximately five acres on a farm in Frederick County close to Gathland State Park.
- April 21st & 22nd - planting more than 1,000 native trees and shrubs on six acres in Frederick County to protect the Middle Creek tributary to Catoctin Creek, which flows into the Potomac River and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay.
