Below are 9 SSL activities created in collaboration with the Environmental Club as a reminder that we need to care for the Earth.

Description: Many things have a negative impact on our environment. Climate change, pollution, greenhouse gases, ocean pollution, deforestation, poaching, and raising livestock are on the list of things that cause negative changes to our world. In this activity, answer 3 questions about 1 of these issues. The answers are required to be at least 3-4 sentences in length in order to receive SSL credit.

Description: Become an environmental problem solver. In this activity, create a hand-made or digital flyer that identifies a particular environmental problem and advocates a solution. The flyer is required to contain 4 elements (identification of problem, significance of problem, advocacy for solution and graphics/photos) in order to receive SSL credit.

Description: Did you ever think about the incredible journey taken by a single water drop? The journey for one drop may take thousands of years to complete. It is one of nature's greatest recycling projects. In this activity, review a fact sheet and explore an interactive chart about the water cycle and then answer questions about what you have learned. The answers are required to be at least 3-4 sentences in length in order to receive SSL credit.

Description: You probably have heard the names of many organizations that help the environment but do you know what exactly they do? In this activity, identify an organization that aims to combat environmental issues and create a Google Slide presentation answering 4 questions about the organization and its purpose. In addition to answering the 4 questions, students should include pictures and graphics in the presentation.

In this activity, you will collect trash for 1 day, sort it, take a photo, and then answer questions about the trash you collected. Description: Just because something has been used before doesn't mean it can't be upcycled and transformed into a beautiful piece of art. In this activity, decorate a letter size piece of paper/cardboard with recyclable materials from around the house. Take a photo of the art, give it a title and provide an explanation for the title. Description: Sam Van Aken created the "Tree of 40 Fruit," a single tree that contains 40 different varieties of stone fruit. For Aken, what started as an art piece turned into a conservation project. In this activity, hear Aken's story in a short TED Talk video and then answer questions about what you learned and what you think of this eye-opening art/conservation project. The answers are required to be at least 3-4 sentences in length in order to receive SSL credit.

Description: Did you know the United States is the global leader in food waste? Every year, Americans throw away almost 40 million tons of food, equaling over $160 billion. On average, that means 219 pounds of waste per person and 30-40 percent of the U.S. food supply.*
In this activity, view a short video and take a short quiz about your food waste habits. After that, answer a few questions about how to improve food waste habits. The answers are required to be at least 3-4 sentences in length in order to receive SSL credit.
